Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is suddenly in danger of reliving a painful experience that fans know all too well.
Aaron Rodgers is Suddenly in Danger of Reliving a Painful Experience Packers Fans Know All Too Well. The Green Bay Packers quarterback has been on the injury report for weeks with an undisclosed injury, but all signs point to him missing Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.
For well over a decade, Green Bay Packers fans have seen Aaron Rodgers slice apart defenses with relative ease. Despite having one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time at the helm since 2008, they have seen their beloved club fall short of the playoffs on a near-annual basis.
Rodgers hasn’t always been flawless, but he’s unquestionably been the Packers’ most valuable and consistent player. Unfortunately for the future Hall of Famer, his prospects of winning a second Super Bowl ring with the Packers are dwindling by the day.
Rodgers, in fact, is in risk of repeating a terrible experience that both he and Packers fans are all too familiar with.

For years, Green Bay’s defense has been plagued by inconsistencies.
When your offense is led by a perennial MVP contender, you should expect to have a lot of success. Since Rodgers took over for Brett Favre in 2008, the Packers have only missed the playoffs three times, which is impressive when compared to other NFL teams.
Their great quarterback, on the other hand, has only won one Super Bowl.
What’s the main reason Rodgers hasn’t won a championship? Although previous head coach Mike McCarthy did not do a great job of placing his team in a winning position, the Packers’ consistently bad defense bears the most of the responsibility.
Between 2011 and 2016, Green Bay had six top-eight scoring offenses, but here’s how the club fared in terms of points allowed:
- 19th of November, 2011
- 11th year in 2012
- 24th of March, 2013
- 13th of April, 2014
- Year 2015: 12th
- The year 2016 is the twenty-first
- 26th of July, 2017
- 22nd of the year
- 9th of April, 2019
- 13th of February, 2020
Needless to say, Rodgers has been forced to carry a team that can’t seem to figure out how to put together a defense capable of shutting down rival offenses on a regular basis. Even when he kept his part of the deal, the Packers still lost a lot of games because they couldn’t get stops on the other side of the ball.
Despite a 31-point offensive performance, Green Bay’s 2012 playoff journey was cut short in the Divisional Round by a 45-point effort by the San Francisco 49ers. The Packers gave up two fourth-quarter touchdowns to the Seattle Seahawks the next season, eventually losing in overtime on a 35-yard touchdown throw from Russell Wilson to Jermaine Kearse.
And the defense hasn’t showed up once they’ve progressed beyond the Divisional Round. In their past three NFC Championship appearances, the Packers have given up a total of 112 points.
Rodgers has always seen another quarterback lift the George Halas Trophy, which comes as no surprise.
Packers fans and Aaron Rodgers are in risk of repeating a tragically familiar scenario.

Will the reigning MVP have his chance to hoist the Lombardi Trophy in the air one more? Or will Rodgers’ bid to become a two-time Super Bowl winner fall short?
The latter seems to be the most probable result at this time. And, given the current state of affairs, Rodgers and Packers supporters should brace themselves for a rerun of a terrible experience they are all too familiar with. After all, the defense has significant personnel and performance issues that may be too difficult to overcome.
Green Bay is presently ranked 19th in terms of points allowed, and it’s quite conceivable that things could worse in the future. Jaire Alexander, the team’s top cornerback, sustained a shoulder injury against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 4 that may need surgery.
Head coach Matt LaFleur told reporters Wednesday, “We’re going to want to prevent it at all costs.”
Alexander’s season would most certainly come to an end if he needed surgery. In any case, his injury is a major setback for a team that is already without star pass rusher Za’Darius Smith, who had back surgery recently and is likely to be sidelined for many weeks, if not longer.
Green Bay’s defense may jeopardize Rodgers’ chances of winning the Super Bowl.

Finally, the fact that the Packers’ two greatest defenders have sustained major injuries does not bode well for Rodgers’ championship hopes. Alexander is a top-10 player at his position (maybe even higher), and no one on the roster or on the free agency market can replace his shoes. Smith’s leadership qualities and ability to go after the quarterback are unreplaceable. If one player is out for a long amount of time, or perhaps the whole season, the team’s championship chances are severely harmed.
Plus, on that side of the ball, the Packers have other problems to deal with.
Will Preston Smith be able to step up and offer greater pass-rush output? Through four games, the 28-year-old outside linebacker has one sack and five quarterback hits. With Za’Darius Smith out, he must develop into a more impact player.
What will the secondary look like in the future? Due to Alexander’s injury, the Packers may be forced to utilize Kevin King in a more prominent position. In Pro Football Focus’ rating methodology, the frequently chastised corner ranks 85th out of 108 cornerbacks. King has a lot to show in the next weeks and months as someone who has been exposed in major situations in the past.
The Packers’ defense seems to be below-average once again. When you combine it with an offense that only scores 23.8 points a game, you have a prescription for failure.
However, Aaron Rodgers and Packers supporters are all too acquainted with this scenario.
